Griseofulvin is fungistatic with in vitro activity against various species of Microsporum Epidermophyton, and Trichophyton. Griseofulvum that is used to treat fungal infections of the skin and nails. Griseofulvin binds to tubulin, disrupting microtubule function and inhibiting mitosis

Description

Indications
Griseofulvin tablets are indicated for the treatment of ringworm infections of the skin, hair, and nails, namely: tineacorporis, tineapedis, tinearcruris, tineabarbae, tineacapitis, tineaunguium (onychomycosis).

Mechanism of Action
Griseofulvin is concentrated in fungi and binds to tubulin, blocking polymerization of the microtubule, disrupting the mitotic spindle.
Side effects
Headaches and mental dullness or inattention, diarrhoea or nausea, rashes and photosensitivity.
Contraindications
Griseofulvin is contraindicated in patients with porphyria or hepatocellular failure, and in individuals with a history of hypersensitivity. It may also cause fetal harm when administered to a pregnant woman
Drug interactions
Interaction of Griseofulvin with Barbiturates such as phenobarbital and butabarbital decreases its pharmacological action; griseofulvin also interacts with birth control pills, cyclosporine and warfarin.
