OMIREN

Omiren (Omeprazole) is a 4-methoxy-3, 5-dimethylpyridyl, 5-methoxybenzimidazole derivative of timoprazole that is used in the therapy of Stomach Ulcers and Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome

Presentation
Blister pack of 10×10’s

Description

Indications
Omiren is widely used in the therapy of gastroesophageal reflux and peptic ulcer disease.
Pharmacological class
Proton Pump Inhibitors
Pharmacological properties
Reduces gastric acid secretion
Mechanism of action
Omeprazole inhibit gastric acid secretion by blocking the hydrogen-potassium adenosine triphosphatase enzyme system (the ‘proton pump’) of the gastric parietal cell.

Side effects
Headache, abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, gas (flatulence), and dizziness.
Contra indications
Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any components of the formulation. Treatment with Omeprazole may mask the symptoms of other gastric diseases.
Drug interactions
Inhibition of the cytochrome p450 enzyme system by Omeprazole, especially in high dose, may cause a decrease in the hepatic metabolism of /coumarin- or indandione-derivative anticoagulants, diazepam or phenytoin/ which may result in delayed elimination and increased blood concentrations, when these medications are used concurrently with Omeprazole.
