COMBIFEN
In COMBIFEN, Paracetamol is an analgesic that reduces pain by preventing sensitization of the nerve endings to pain, probably by reducing synthesis of prostaglandins, whereas Ibuprofen has a very potent action as a Non-steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drug (NSAID) to reduce inflammation and pain.

Description
Indications
COMBIFEN is a strong analgesic. It provides quick symptomatic relief from pain in following conditions:
Traumatic injuries due to accidents, Surgical trauma from (operations, episiotomy, delivery manipulations) Infective inflammation due to tonsillitis, abscess, pleurisy, Dental pain due to infection or eroded tooth, Dysmenorrhoea, especially in teenaged and young women.
Acute exacerbation of rheumatoid or other similar inflammatory orthopathies, where pain is the most distressing symptom.

Mechanism of Action
Paracetamol is generally considered to be a weak inhibitor of the synthesis of prostaglandin under some circumstances. Paracetamol also decreases PG concentrations in vivo, but, unlike the selective COX-2 inhibitors.
Ibuprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that inhibits cyclooxygenase enzymes (COX-1 and COX-2) and subsequent synthesis of prostaglandins and related compounds at peripheral sites within injured tissue.
Side effects
Sometimes Combifen may cause gastrointestinal upsets like nausea. Vomiting, rarely blurred vision, dizziness, oedema, or rashes have been reported.
Contraindications
COMBIFEN is contraindicated in patients with peptic ulcer, moderate to severe kidney, liver, bone marrow impairment, pregnancy and asthma. It is also contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any ingredients present in formulation.
Drug interactions
Consumption of alcohol is not recommended during treatment with this medicine due to the increased risk of serious side effects such as severe gastrointestinal bleeding, dizziness, fatigue, weakness, rashes, nausea, joint pain, fever.
